Headed out to the platform early...hoping to get a cobia...there is lots of bait if you jig right next to the pipes....but that seems all there is ...no takers on the fish front..water still between 18 and 19C...not good.

Got out to the 18 fathoms today.A top day, light northerly wind, but a current running north to south at about 2km!!..We got heaps of bait in the morning in red eye pilchards and yakkas. We were hoping for a cobia, but to no avail. We did manage two mactuna. The water was cold and green.

the cobia that got away

this giant of a cobia was hooked in 20 fathoms of the gold coast.it was fought for over two hours before breaking away at the trace...next to the kayak....to the disapointment of the angler. This is the month that the cobia should start showing up in numbers of the coast.

15 september report of the seaway

A mate stuart managed to get out for a fish of the seaway banks on the 15 september 2008.It has been a hard month fishing wise with persistent north easterlies and as a result the water colour is green and cold...but amazingly he still manages this beautifull 19.5kg longtail tuna!!!!!

NSW north coast August 30

A top morning weather wise...but no fish to be found at all...this is becoming a common occurance lately!!!!...a newbie on his first trip out landed a good snapper though...down at kingscliff

12 to 20 fathoms of the gold coast 19 august

A few of us hit the 12 to 20 fathoms of seaworld, gold coast.First stop was 1 mile bait reef.heeps of bait in the form of yakkas.Paddled about another 1.5km out.Quite a few boats out,but unfortunately the fishing had shut down...no takers today at all!!

Saturday, August 23, 2008

looked at the weather forcast and it was showing 30 to 40 knots westerly so we decided on a paddle in the seaway around wavebreak island.we dropped a few plastics around and some small lures....but zip...and then the wind started to die down so we headed out to the first reef at 12 fathoms...jigged up a few livies and in a couple of minutes a small yellowfin was boated around 5kgs...so being the baby one i managed to release him so he could grow big.rigged up again and then was on a little later...this time a "jellybeen"..mactuna came to the party..got him up he looked around 8kgs...so released him and sent him on his merry ways..rigged up again and bang again...another macy..got him up...looked a tad bigger than the other one but unfortunately the hook was way to deep..so he couldnt be released...but he was not wasted as got a mate who loves mactuna...so he will provide a good feed...and then to top it of mr turtle popped up to say g'day..
