sunday 28 October 2007

A Trip out to pottsville, nsw.A few hours paddling was obtained before a really strong north east wind set in for the day.A good launch with a bit of surf to contend with.A few sharks were hooked, including hammerheads and small reef sharks. That all that seems to be around at the moment.

"circle hook technique"

Saturday 27 October 2007.A trip into NSW.It was an interesting launch with a mid low tide, and the after effect of weeks of north easterly winds pushing in a disorganized 4ft of messed up swell. It is sometimes more difficult to control surf launches in these kind of conditions,as there is no consistent set break in between sets. But there will always be,no matter what the conditions, and the launch was timed perfect,so there was no incident. The water is warming up a slight touch, but still fish hard to come by.A few cobia were seen on the surface, but they were not interested in any baits at all.Look at how well the circle hook technique works, allowing for easy release of fish that are not wanted. There are still a few whales moving south as well.A good day on the water with glass out conditions, swinging around to an onshore north east by around 10.00am

Saturday 20th October

It was a beautifull day again out on the water. It really is great to be out on the ocean in such beautifull calm conditions. The fishing is pretty bad at the moment, with lots of cold water about, and brown weed floating about.Still the odd whale sighting, and a good tow around the ocean by a hammerhead shark, that was successfully released. You couldnt have asked for a better day, weather wise..

"new south wales"

October 14.A trip down to nsw,did not reveal much fish, besides a mac tuna, which was given to a boatie as bait.the wind was South east in the morning, with about a 4ft of swell on the mid low tide.It was total glass out around 9am before swinging around to the onshore easterly.A group of whales were doing there display a couple of metres in front of my kayak...such magnificent creatures. The water was a pea green colour, with lots of brown flakes in it...probably expains the lack of fish!!!!,besides mac tuna..

"cook Island,fidos reef,New South Wales

29 September 2007.We decided on a trip out to fidos reef,of fingal head. This is not the most paddle friendly kayak spot to fish, for a number of reasons. It is very exposed to the weather. Also there is an extremly strong north to south current that screams over the bommies,so definately a bit of fitness is required.I couldnt jig up any suitable bait,so decided to pull a rapala x-rap,and a halco lazer pro.I only managed numerios small bonitos, which i released. My friend clive did manage to catch this nice 4.1kg snapper on the closer reef

New South Wales

28 September 2007.With a prediction of 1 to 2ft swell, and gentle ne seabreezes it was a good day to be out offshore on the water. The fishing action is still very slow, and you have to work hard for fish.Managed to jig up a few live yakkas and they were put out on the normal circle hook. There was lots of sea life today, with a huge turtle showing up,some dolphins and a whale sighting. Also a shark sighting.Well it wasnt to long before this 7.5kg mac tuna came along. Its a pity they are such bad eating fish,as they sure do give a good account for themselves.definately fun to catch.I then trolled out wider and had another pull on my live yakka, but some how i managed to pull the circle hook out.(suspect i struck to early??).After that it was time to come in
